Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Huntly on Sat 29 May 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 15 runs

Match report Finally the first team secured their first victory of the season with a deserved hard fought victory over Huntly at Meigle on Saturday.

Batting first up on a damp wicket which was hard underneath was never going to be an easy task and the skipper opted for experienceand opened up with himself and Arun. Runs were hard to come by and due to the conditions and the accurate youthful Huntly bowling line up. The openers ground out a partnership of 95 before Pete was dismissed after attempting one mow to cow too many and being caught for 58. Arun continued his fine form with the bat this season making a well compiled 51 before falling next. Some clean hitting from Gilly and Dr Mo accelerated the score at the end and the Skipper was satisfied with a total of 165 at tea.

Meigle started the second innings in ideal fashion with a wicket in the first over to Dr Mo. Jamie then progressed to bowl a fine spell of fast hostile bowling, lidding one Huntly batsman and giving a couple more some medals to show on the Sunday. New signing Zed shared the new ball and looks to be a handy acqusition bowling a tidy spell no doubt inspired by Trivedi's boots. Andy found some rhythm and picked up a smart return catch early in his spell to keep Meigle on top. The skipper continued to rotate the bowlers although this was mainly down to the footwear having to be rotated as well! Some typically strong hitting from Mike Massie looked as if it had taken the game away from Meigle, indeed word had at one point spread to the local pub that Meigle had actually lost!

What then followed was some magnificent outfielding by Meigle which started with Wim, playing his 100th game of the season, taking a great running(jogging) catch at the top of the hill to dismiss Rough. A diving one hander from Happy was then followed by the game changing moment when Massie attempted to hit Arun over the top but skied it and Ricky took a wonderfully judged catch at the top of the hill. The heroics were not finished there as Scotty rolled back the years to take a remarkable diving lefthanded catch with his palm facing the wrong way! Wim returned from his Tour of Scotland to clean up the number 11 and get the party started. Jamie ending with figures of 3-23 and Arun completing a MOTM performance with 2-21.

Next week's fixture will be a tough one away to champions Mannofield. Players are asked to meet in the square at 11 am apart from Wim who will be flying into Aberdeen airport at 12 59 after playing the first 2 days of the second test for England v Bangladesh.
