Meigle Cricket Club First XI v DHSFP on Sat 17 Jul 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 9 wkts

Match report Meigle welcomed DHSFP to Victory park on Saturday looking to avenge the comprehensive defeat at Dundee earlier in the season. Meigle were again without Gangmaster Gilly and also were missing specialist fielder/umpire/driver and occasional batsman Drummy senior who was in Inverness to see the legend that is Rod Stewart.
Drummy Jnr won the toss and decided to field as the wicket looked to have a bit of juice in it. The opening bowlers Den and Mo exploited the conditions wonderfully and the high school were 0-0 after 4 overs! After an impressive but fruitless 5 overs from Jamie, Zed was brought into the attack and struck to remove the dangerous Kyles with an innocuous looking long hop which Raif pouched safely at gully, then again 'some guys have all the luck'. Zed struck again the same over to get rid of Bailwal with a brute of a delivery taking the glove. Den finished a luckless spell from the pavilion end and the 'forever young' Arun was introduced into the attack. Arun and Zed formed a great partnership giving the batsmen no loose balls to hit and Arun picked up a couple of wickets to put Meigle firmly on top. As has happened so often to us this season a good 5th wicket partnership put a shine on the final score as the high school finished on 143-7 with Charlie picking up 2 wickets with his devastating inswinger.
The teas were a bit average but a welcome return for the victoria sponge lifted the spirits although it was clear to see that Audrey was on holiday from the rest of the offerings!
Meigle once again opened with pinch hitter Christie, and once again the method worked well. Den sending a few drives 'sailing' over the fielders heads as well as some great shots square of the wicket although they travelled a shorter distance each time but Den told the skipper that 'the first cut is the deepest'. Den departed for 46 with the score on 62 and still some work to be done. The skipper told Raif to 'stay with me' and so he did. As the skipper worked the leg side fielders hard Raif played some lovely shots through and over the off side, one lofted cover drive earning the shot of the day. Raif and the skipper saw the boys home without too much drama and a well deserved 25 points were in the bag leaving MOTM christie to happily return home to his 'baby jane'.
