Forthill v Meigle Cricket Club First XI on Sat 21 Aug 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 7 wkts

Match report The Meigle bandwagon rolled into Forthill on Saturday on the back of five wins on the trot and promptly rolled on out again with number six in the bag.

The skipper was proud to see at the pitch inspection that his seven years at forthill including major covers maintainence had not gone to waste as the wicket looked like water had not been near it in weeks!

After winning the toss with a strong looking batting line up in tow the skipper opted to chase. And although Zed struggled with his line and back foot, Deadly was right on the mark and was soon in the wickets removing the Ferry side's top three batsmen in another miserly spell.

The pressure was kept on by Arun and Andy with them each picking up a deserved wicket. There was to be no respite for the home side as Charlie came on and found some swing to go with his usual accuracy to rip out the middle order.

The Forthill tail wagged though and pushed their total to 168, a little more than looked likely at one stage but far short of a real challenging total.

The Meigle reply got off to a bad start when Den was caught after mis-timing a pull shot to a long hop. Drummy and Ralph then set about knocking off the runs quite briskly at first, picking up singles where possible and dispatching the bad balls to the boundary. This was about to change though as the sun came out and Fothill turned to their slower and more accurate bowlers run scoring became more difficult on a now even drier surface.

Ralph succumbed to the wily off spin of Walker for a nicley compiled 32 and Zed strode out to join the skipper. Zed too started brightly hitting boundaries at vital times to keep the run rate under control, and with 10 overs remaining only 30 runs were required and the pair at the crease were in complete control.

Without being quite sure how it happened Meigle then went into the last over needing 5 runs to win! The skipper used all of his experience to place the first ball of the over neatly through the gap in long off's hands for four and finally timed a shot off of the spinner next ball for another boundary to finish the game.

And so the Union's form team made it 6 in a row and welcome Strathmore to Victory park on Saturday for the final league game of the season.
