Tom's Triumphant 6

09 Jul 2012

Tom Duff's team were deserved winners of the ressurected Meigle 6's on Sunday, winning the final against Deadly Den's team in a game which went down to the last delivery. The day began early with the groundstaff battling the conditions and the after effects of the BYO drink party from the previous evening to prepare 2 wickets and brush the astro for the organisers approval. Only for him to stumble up to the park and promptly tell them to cut another one!
The proceedings opened with Arun v Tom and Tom's team got off to a flyer, posting a healthy 75 with Arun's team suffering from possible burn out having arrived at 10 am for a warm up! Arun's team were never up with the rate and the tournament now had a new favourite in the form of team Duff.
The day continued to progress smoothly, with runs flowing and wickets tumbling. Highlights included Dean's two 10's in two balls,Scott Boyer scoring 30 in every game and then losing and the finest Victoria Sponge ever to be released from Clark's Bakery ( and yes he left the cake box AGAIN Josephine!).
The biggest highlight of the day though was the celebration of Rory's Young Guns as they disposed of pre tournament favourites Team Persil in the group stages. All that was missing was a lap of honour. With MOTM Murray leading the way with a catch, a wicket and a run out in the space of 6 deliveries.
The final was a cagey affair with Team Duff openers Clarky and Pieter accumulating rather than providing the earlier fireworks to post a getable 47. Den's reply got off to a disasterous start with the rested Christie perishing first ball. With guest star Persil on fire in the field it was left to the groundsmen to attempt to get 20 from the final 2 overs, a task which was to prove beyond them in the end as Team Duff ran out worthy winners.
It was a Fine, fun day which everyone seemed to enjoy and which was made possible by the fantastic efforts of groundsmen Mitch and PCJ and BBQ man Paul, and is now an event which will hopefully be repeated next season.
