Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Rossie on Sat 01 May 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Lost by 5 wkts

Match report Meigle opened their 2010 league season with a disappointing loss at home to Rossie Priory. After losing the toss Meigle were asked to bat on another damp looking wicket but openers Drummond and Duff made batting look relatively easy and the 50 partnership was brought up in the 15th over. An out of character lookind mow from Duff ended that however and he departed for 16. This proved a turning point in the innings as the home batsmen struggled in the middle overs against the accuracy of veteran Lynch and Stephens, and the Aussie Ditchman who was bowling some massive turning deliveries. Morrison was bowled through the 'gate', although that gate was more like a garge door, Arun looked like he had been watching too much IPL, old man Drum was officially diagnosed by doctor Mo as 'puggled' after running an over of 2's and Deadly fell to an ugly swipe as the middle order folded again. Some nice shots from youngsters Wim and Scotty boosted the total at the ended edging us closer to the holy grail of 125 but ultimately falling 3 runs short.

A much improved spread greeted the players at the interval prompting McAlpine to state that it was the best tea he had enjoyed 'this season'.

Meigle took the field feeling about 20 short of having a competitive total and so it was to ultimately prove. Deadly and Mo started well and along with some solid fielding runs were hard to come by for the visitors. With little sideways seam movement from the wet wicket the batsmen were looking comfortable. The introduction of young Wim Clark brought the innings to life. He almost claimed a wicket with his first ball in first class cricket but Tom grassed a difficult chance round the corner. The breakthrough was not far away however and Wim took the first wicket as Lynch failed to go over the top, instead finding the ever safe hands of old Drum at mid off. After Wim had sent down a tidy 5 overs he was replaced by Boyer who carried on the good work with an equally controlled spell. Boyer was denied an early wicket when doctor Mo dropped a sitter at cover, one can only think his mind was on his modelling assignment that evening. Once Boyer did strike, removing MOTM Stephens, a couple of quick wickets from doctor Mo had Meigle right back in the game. The vital 5th wicket proved elusive though as Ditchman and Lynch guided Rossie to a deserved victory.

Highlights from the game for Meigle were a return to form for 'young' Drum and impressive spells of bowling from Boyer and in particular Wim, who proved his place in the team was on the strength of his bowling and not his mum's victoria sponge!
