Mannofield v Meigle Cricket Club First XI on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Lost by 11 runs

Match report A confident Meigle team left for Aberdeen on Saturday, bouyed by last weekends win over Huntly and hopeful of inflicting Mannofield's first league defeat in 2 and a half seasons.

After losing the toss Meigle were asked to field and suffered an early blow when Raif fell foul of the fickle finger fracture fraternity and had to inform the skipper of his 'sare finger'. It took a dissapointing 20 or so overs for the club's emergency soft top Jag to arrive to administer treatment and raif had to be content with 45 overs patrolling to boundary with fellow patient old man Drum.

Zed struck in his first over, taking a fine return catch, and also picked up another wicket shortly after to give the visitors a fine start. Mannofield had obviously heard about Dr 'wheels' Mo however and the pitch lacked the pace and bounce he enjoys at the Victory park. A good partnership for the 3rd wicket put Mannofield in charge but this was broken by a quality piece of fielding from Jamie. Some controlled bowling from youngsters Wim and Craig along with some determined outfielding restricted Mannofield to a challenging, yet gettable 225.

As the Meigle top order padded up (or more accurately beg, stole and borrowed various bits of kit) it was a sullen Scotty Boyer who sat slumped in the changing room vowing never to again listen to tea critic Dr Mo who had raised his hopes to fever pitch with tales of pizza and doughnuts, instead to be confronted with pieces and nae juice! A jumbo haddock on the way home went some way to cheering him up but the following hour of Lionel Ritchie in the Kuga did not.

Meigle got off to a great start with first Raif and Tom and then Pete and Raif keeping up with the required rate. With the boundaries drying up the rate began to creep up and Meigle developed an unwelcome knack of losing wickets at crucial times. The writing was on the wall when the quite frankly knackered skipper papped one to mid on but Arun raised the visitors hopes with a quickfire 20 before being run out. Some desperate swiping by the lower order was not quite enough as Meigle finished 11 short after giving the home side a real fright.

Players are reminded not to bother with spikes for training as we will be training on a bouncy castle wearing full pads and boxing gloves using tennis balls from now on to avoid further finger injuries.
