Arbroath v Meigle Cricket Club First XI on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 119 runs

Match report A strong looking Meigle team travelled to Arbroath in hope of their second league win and leapfrogging their opponents. The team was bolstered by out-patient Christie but lost in-patient Raif.

Meigle batted first and got off to a slow start also losing opener Pete with the score at 16. Enter Zed, who played a lovely fluent innings using the quick outfield to good effect square of the wicket and dominated a stand of 66 with Tom before being bowled. Tom followed soon after for a hard fought 31 and was joined in the hutch by an out of sorts Ally G.

At 120-4 the innings could have gone either way but a great stand of 60 between Arun and Jamie put Meigle in the driving seat and allowed the lower order to dominate the Arbroath attack and fielders in the closing stages. After Arun departed for 31, Jamie and Scott set about the bowlers with some teriffic strokes all around the wicket. Scott was unlucky to play on having made 13 and Jamie holed out for a fantastic 54. Craig and Wim finished the innings off with some superb running before Wim spoiled his league average, which had rocketed to 24, by getting caught off the last delivery to bring it crashing back down to a paltry 12, surely putting his allrounder status in jeopardy!

After Scotty 'one shoe' Boyer managed to drag himself away from the tea table, meigle took the field confident of defending their total of 239.

Jamie's dream day continued as he picked up 4 cheap wickets to put the result beyond doubt. A wicket for Zed and two for the returning deadly had meigle dreaming of an early finish, Den perfecting the reverse hand catch for one of his wickets. But a 9th wicket partnership of 45 frustrated the troops, so much so that it was left to the skipper to bowl himself and amazed the Arbroath batsmen by actually bowling on the stumps to clean up the tail.

In the end it was a resounding victory from Meigle by 119 runs capped by a superb all round performance from Jamie Mo.

With no injuries sustained in the game it was left to Wim and Scott to get third degree burns on their fingers in their attempts to gobble up a piping hot 'peppo's' fish supper (not a patch on the ashvale though)!
