Strathmore v Meigle Cricket Club First XI on Sat 26 Jun 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Lost by 5 wkts
Match report
The glorious weather continued at the weekend as Meigle enjoyed a trip in the sunshine to Forfar. A few mishaps resulted in a rearranged Meigle batting order as they took first use of a good looking wicket and outfield. Rumours that Ali G may have Zed tied to poly tunnel pole up dreil no 5 in order to gain a higher place in the batting order are thought to be unfounded but the skipper was surprised to find upon his arrival that Zed had morphed into the cheerier but less talented ashish.
Meigle got off to a great start as some wayward Strathie bowling allowed the openers to keep the scoreboard racing along. This was halted when Tom nicked to gully and Jamie followed soon after, playing on to one sliding down leg. Pete and Arun formed a solid partnership of 44 before Arun was yorked soon after drinks. Partners for the skipper came and went before a nice cameo from Deadly was ended by a terrific catch by a young loon at full stretch on the boundary.
The Meigle innings ended on a below par 162 with, for the second week running, only Drummy and the wides passing 20.
Meigle got off to another great start in the second innings with early wickets from both Jamie and Deadly silencing the boisterous home crowd. Den settled into a fine spell of swing bowling, his 3-19 helping reduce Strathie to 76-5. The skipper sensed the game was there for the taking and had informed the troops that one more wicket would probably win it for Meigle. But actions speak louder than words they say and when Gourlay nicked one from Arun the skipper could not get his hands correctly positioned and the chance was gone. The sixth wicket pair then never offered another chance on their way to a match winning partnership.
At the halfway point in the season Meigle find themselves second bottom of the league and will be hoping to turn some of the narrow defeats into wins in the second half to secure their premier league survival.
