Rossie v Meigle Cricket Club First XI on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 157 runs
Match report
Meigle travelled to picturesque Rossie Priory on saturday in search of their third win of the season boosted by the returning Zed and Raif and the steadying influence (Kuga) of old man drum.
Meigle were asked to bat first on a dry looking pitch and the skipper produced a moment of outstanding foresight by asking Deadly to open up with himself. What a masterstroke it proved as Deadly proceeded to dispatch the Rossie bowlers to all parts of the estate with a great display of controlled hitting and some smart running. After getting off the mark with a towering six Den added ten more boundaries before perishing, predictably, caught at deep mid wicket for 74 with the score on 104 in the 15th over!
The skipper and Raif then added a more measured 99 before Raif was caught for 35. Jaime Mo then bashed a quickfire 38 from 26 balls as Meigle homed in on the elusive 300 mark. It was not to be however as the innings spluttered to an end with the skipper out for 120 in the final over as Meigle closed on 294.
Rossie flew out of the traps in their pursuit as they raced to 18-1 after 9 overs! In a less than memorable run chase extras were the top scorer due to some wayward bowling and some stiff wicketkeeping. Bowling performances of note were Jamie continuing his fine form with 2-13 and Wim getting his devastating inswinger going again in a miserly spell of 5-2-7-2. Belly picked up his first league wicket of the season and Scott bowled with good control and polished off the Rossie innings before polishing off their sandwiches, chips and a fish supper for good measure.
So an emphatic win for the troops leaving the only question being how the hell you can lose by 157 runs and still get 9 points!
Players are reminded that ear muffs with the clubs crest on them can be purchased from the spar in preparation for this weekends fixture.
