Meigle Cricket Club Second XI v Kinross XI on Sun 05 Sep 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 157 runs
Match report
The 2's kept in touch with the top of the third division with a comprehensive win over Kinross on sunday.
It was glorious sunshine that greeted the eleven Kinross players and Meigle's magnificent seven at Victory Park. And after winning the toss skipper Laing opted to take first use of a greta looking deck. After a lot of discussion/playing for time skipper Laing informed the troops that his batting order would be a mix of youth and experience, and opened up with Andy and Chris!
The pair looked in little trouble early doors although Chris was fortunate to escape with a couple of lives from the visiting skip. The ball was running wonderfully on the lightning quick outfield as the pair raced to 70 before Andy was caught for a boundary laden 24.
Meigle's young guns in the middle made little impression but Chris grew in confidence hitting boundaries almost at will before perishing with a century in his sights.
Laing and Leese put together a hundred plus partnership to push the total over the 200 mark. Shoaib, who was late after paying a visit to see the hairy bikers at camperdown, then joined the skipper for their final overs assault on the visitors 9 year olds as the innings closed on a very healthy 260.
The teas were exeptional for the final home game of the season, or maybe they just looked that way due to the lack of numbers! The skipper was delighted with the appearance of both green and blue milk and everyone over the age of 40 still drank tea even though it was about 110 degrees in the pivvy! A minutes silence was also observed in appreciation of the final Victoria sponge of the season.
The numbers had swelled to 9 when Meigle retook the field after tea, as the skipper and Scott took the nearly new ball. After the first wicket fell to a runout it turned into the Scott Boyer show as he dismantle the Kinross middle order with 2 wickets a run out and 2 catches, including a spectacular one handed catch above his head.
Andy cleaned out the tail by cheating a little and actually bowling at the stumps to leave him with a remarkable 9-14 for the season for the 2's.
On the whole an enjoyable day in the sun as the 2's gear up for next weeks do-or-die clash with St Modans
