Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Huntly on Sun 30 May 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Lost by 42 runs

Match report Hopes were high for a second win of he season for the firsts as they welcomed Huntly to Victory park for the second installment of the double header. These hopes were to be dashed however by a tremendous display of hitting from visiting skipper Mike Massie who hit 66 from only 28 deliveries to set up an imposing first innings total of 226 from 50 overs.

Huntly had started brightly but were pegged back by some accurate bowling from Charles and Scott. It was left to Arun to make the breakthrough as he picked up both openers finishing with 2-14 to complete a terrific weekend of bowling for him. Massie dominated the attack in the closing stages with some mammoth sixes, poor Dr Mo feeling the full brunt of the onslaught.

Some tired limbs and heads (first win of the season the day before) trudged off the field at half time but spirits were raised when it emerged that Audrey Morrison had decided to engage Josephine Clark in a 'Bake Off'! Audrey's chocolate and cream number was up against Wim's mum's lemon iced sponge and although the skipper was delighted by the lemon offering the majority were bemoaning the lack of the famous Victoria sponge so this round must go to Mrs Mo. Although it must be noted that the family profession is most definately doctor not dentist judging by the sugar levels involved!

Whatever was in those cakes had the desired effect on Dr Mo as he raced out of the blocks, timing the ball beautifully and giving him the strength to raise his 6lb 7oz kookaburra above waist height a couple of times to hammer a couple of pull shots. Even Raif had decided on a date with his Gray Nicolls and he looked in decent touch before edging behind. Ally carried on his good form reaching double figures before skying one and a couple of cheap wickets brought otgether Arun and Scott. Boyer assumed the senior role and it was a delight to watch him cutting the opening bowler for four twice along the ground. While those two were together Meigle were actually ahead of the rate required for a short while but after Scott was bowled and Arun dismissed it all unravelled a bit and we fell some 40 runs short.

Credit must go to Mitch, Davie and Tam for sterling work on the square in the morning to get the game played at about the same time as the skip and vice skip were getting home!

Overall two real good games of cricket at the weekend with no pro dominated games and played in a hard but fair spirit. Roll on Mannofield and the sunshine.
