Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Kinross XI on Sat 24 Apr 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 77 Runs
Match report
Meigle first eleven kicked off the new season with a comfortable victory over a mixed Kinross team at Victory park on Saturday. After being inserted on a soggy looking track the openers of Raif and Tom took the score along steadily to 66 without loss at drinks. A pep talk from the skipper saw Tom increase the scoring rate rapidly and he reached a well deserved hundred in the 31st over clearing the ropes four times. Raif was first to depart for a solid 38 before tom was dismissed shortly after bringing up his ton. A collapse ensued as the Meigle middle order failed to deal with some accurate bowling by the Kinross youngsters. The closing total of 185 was a little dissapointing given the start made by the openers. As the players enjoyed tea in the April sunshine the selectors noted a distinct lack of cakes which may lead to the inclusion of young 'Wim' Clark next week to bolster supplies. These were not helped by the 7pm finding of a suspected Walton tea offering left in the dressing room!
Meigle started the second innings well with deadly bagging a couple of early wickets but were held up in their march to victory by a determined knock from the visiting skipper. The introduction of Bolt and the return of Den saw Meigle run through the Kinross lower order however. Ricky deciding to protest against the poor tea offering by serving up some of his own 'pies' to the opposition! Denis too will be disappointed to allow his economy rate to have sneaked over one per over.
In summary, a more than satisfactory start to the season with the fisrt club 5 for and hundred accounted for before May. Ground fielding and catching were also of a high standard although the Bolt is hopeful of a new delivery of running spikes from his sponsors before next weeks 'meet'.
