Match report For the first fixture of the season the 9 men of Meigle enjoyed glorious weather for the season opener against Rossie Priory at Victory Park. After winning the toss the Meigle skipper elected to bat first, mainly to save his fielders a chasing in the sun, much to the worry of a bemused Arun who hadn't realised it was a friendly game!

Den was back in the hutch early after one mow across the line too early in the season bringing Drummy and Callum Leese together. After a cautious opening against some tight Rossie bowling they got the scoreboard ticking nicely before Callum was trapped leg before in front of all 3. Jamie then joined the skipper and the scoring was further hastened thanks to some lovely shots from Jamie and a few hacks against the diminishing in quality bowling attack from Drummy.

Arun grabbed his first victim of the season early on, unfortunately for Meigle it was Scott Boyer, run out with Arun desperate to get off the mark in his 50th season in cricket. To be fair Arun then marshalled the tail well and pushed the score up to a competitive 161.

Despite the lack in numbers an amazing feast awaited the players as vice skipper Morrison performed the ceremonial cutting of the first victoria sponge of the season. As the players basked outside in the blazing sunshine people were still drinking tea!

The Meigle opening bowlers were a bit rusty early on but once they found their rhythm scoring became very difficult for the Rossie top order. Some good disciplined bowling from the Meigle bowling unit had Rossie well behind the rate and despite a brief riposte from McAlpine, the introduction of Boyer destroyed the middle order and left them with no way back.

Overall a good blowing away of the cobwebs performance from Meigle, and with the return of a few regulars next week they look forward to their visit to Arbroath.
