Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Kinross on Sat 14 May 2011 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 5 wkts

Match report It was a bright but breezy day that greeted La Liga newcomers Kinross to the Victory Park on Saturday with the visitors in search of their first points of the season and the home team looking to maintain their strong early season form.

It was a depleted Meigle squad who started he game as 3 members of the team were involved in the quidditch world cup at Morrisons. It was a surprise therefore when the home skipper decided to bowl first, backing the accuracy of his opening bowlers.

The openers came and went thanks to some probing bowling and tidy wicketkeeping from the skipper. The next wicket fell when Old man Drum showed the youngsters how not to do it by adopting the 'crocodile' catching technique to dismiss Lopez.

Kinross then staged a determined fightback when skipper Muncey and young Fraser Gosse put together a partnership and took the score along to 80-3. With the openers tiring and the visiting batsmen growing in confidence the skipper turned to 'golden arm' Boyer in search of a breakthrough.

Scott was soon into the action drawing a false stroke from Muncey who was well taken by Drummy Snr in the difficult 'top of the hill' position. The return of the hogwarts 3 meant Meigle could really turn the screw on the Kinross lower order and an aggressive return to the attack from Morrison yielded a couple of wickets before Boyer mopped up the tail to take his first XI wicket tally to 12 for the season.

A breakdown in communication meant that the sweets were late out on display leading to a mad scramble for the victoria sponge leading to a distraught home skipper leaving the table empty handed. Fines will be dished out if this performance is repeated.

Meigle started their response brightly with Ralph eager for a pizza the action and despite their best efforts the Kinross bowlers did not give Ralph his most diffcult delivery to face that evening....that came later when he had to go up to the 4th floor of the south william st flats with 4 large pepperoni passions, 2 garlic breads, ice cream and 2 litre bottles of coke!

After replacing their quidditch sticks with cricket bats Leese and Morrison got stuck into the kinross attack with some aggressive strokeplay before falling in quick succession. Jamie managed to get himself bowled for the 495th time in his career before Ricky settled the nerves with a boundary followed with a massive 6 and Charlie finished the game off with a nice brace of braces.

Overall a comprehensive win for the home side with the hard work put in by the youngsters at training starting to bear fruit.
