Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Huntly on Sat 28 May 2011 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 77 runs
Match report
Meigle maintained their 100% record in the league this season with a comfortable home win over Huntly.
After losing the toss Meigle were inserted on a green looking track. Some accurate bowling by Nicol was causing the home openers trouble and Drummy was lucky to survive 2 straightforward dropped catches. After a couple of big blows Deadly was the first wicket to fall after being decieved by a full ball from Tait which dipped in the wind.
The Meigle top order struggled with a difficult pitch and some tight visiting bowling and the home side stumbled to 50-3 with Duff and Gilmour going cheaply.'Persil' dug in well on his return to the club as he and the skipper took the score near to 100 before he nicked off to the keeper from the bowling of Morrison.
This brought Jamie to the crease and he sensibly played himself in while the skipper found a bit of form making Huntly pay for their missed chances early on. Once he was used to the pace of the pitch Jamie played an absolute gem of an innings. One gigantic 6 was launched, wind assisted, from the balmacron end which must have cleared the ropes by 30 metres.
The only blot on Morrisons innings came when he ran out the skipper. The disciplinary meeting for this offence will be heard in the pivvy on Tuesday 31 May at 6pm.
Jamie and Arun then formed a great partnership pushing the score up towards 200 before Jamie fell for a fantastic 53 the ball after dispatching Nicol for another massive 6, this time into the wind.
Arun and Scott once again finished the Meigle innings nicely with Arun continuing his fine form with the bat to finish unbeaten on 37 with Scott still there on 11no to end the Meigle innings on 220-6, a fine effort in the conditions.
With Josephine unavailable due to a late call up to the IPBL (Indian Premier Baking League)it was left to Wim's sister to produce the offerings for tea. A promising Lemon sponge was the delightfull outcome much to the liking of the skipper but to the bemusement of the Victoria Sponge lovers in the team.
Meigle started the second half in great fashion with Morrison bowling Rough third ball of the innings. He had his second wicket soon after taking a sharp return catch to dismiss Ferguson.
Old stalwarts Trivedi and Christie then turned the screw on the rest of the Huntly top order, with Den grabbing 2 victims and Arun bowling the dangerous Howard.
With Callum Leese away watching the egg chasing, the mantle was picked up by Scott and Chris who bowled really well in tandem through the middle overs to put the game well out of Huntly's reach.
The experienced Nicol and Thomson added some respectibility to the scoreline at the end of the innings but there were still positives for Meigle with Wim back bowling more like his old self, Duncan bowling a promising couple of overs and Chris picking up a well deserved wicket.
Overall 2 more excellent all round performances from Arun and Jamie kept the Meigle bandwagon rolling on after last weeks dissapointment.
Saturday also saw the remarkably rare occurence of the same 11 players who were selected on the Tuesday playing on the Saturday, prompting o2 to contact the skipper wondering if his phone had been stolen!
