Meigle Cricket Club First XI v DHSFP on Sat 25 Jun 2011 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 5 wkts
Match report
Meigle entertained DHSFP at victory park on Saturday in search of their first win of a wet and barren June.
After winning the toss the home skipper had no hesitation in asking the visitors to bat on a soft and green looking pitch.
The High School top order found the going tough against the four pronged home seam attack but had crawled to 30 before the first wicket fell with Duncan taking an excellent low catch to dismiss Martin.
Bailwal and Ancell built another partnership before the inevitable run out happened with Craig alert in the covers to effect the dismissal.
Spin was introduced in the form of the skipper and after a couple of spilled chances he decided to do the job himself with a caught and bowled to get rid of Ancell for a well made 40.
A few lusty blows and some more suicidal running brought the innings to a close on 142-7 with the home side reasonably happy to be chasing that total.
Callum and Den opened up for Meigle and got the home side off to the ideal start putting on 40 in quick time with both batsmen finding the gaps nicely.
Den perished when he dragged his back foot out looking to play a big shot over the top and was duly stumped by Martin.
This brought the skipper to the crease and while he struggled to start with Callum kept the scoreboard ticking over at the other end with some fine straight shots and brought up his maiden half century for the club, the first of many on this evidence.
The skipper got in on the act as the visiting bowling became a bit ragged in the search for wickets. Callum and Drummy took Meigle to 122-1 and were cruising to victory before a flurry of wickets sparked a bit of panic in the home dressing room.
Scott washed away any doubts with a couple of nice shots over the top and finished the game in fine style with with a cracking straight drive for four.
Overall a great win to get the season back on track after 3 defeats in a row thanks mainly to a terrific innings from Callum on a tricky batting wicket. Another promising sign for Meigle was the sight of 8 players under the age of 21. The average age of the team coming close to setting a league record but for the inclusion of Arun!
