Meigle Cricket Club First XI v S/Dyce on Sat 30 Jul 2011 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Lost by 89 runs
Match report
Meigle entertained league leaders Stoneywood Dyce at Victory Park on Saturday. Under cloudy but warm conditions the home skipper decided to bowl first. This seemed a wise move as the openers, Morrison and Leese had the ball swinging both ways and had the visiting batsmen in all sorts of trouble early on.
Callum struck first removing Sweegan LBW but that was to be the only reward for the opening pair as Mo again finished wicketless.
Arun struck with his first delivery, a menacing full bunger which Cohen struck firm and straight only for Lockers to produce a stunning diving catch to his right.
Deadly also started well and removed the big hitting Barron before he got fully into his stride.
As the warm sun came out the bowling began to lack the earlier penetration and Snow and Shah embarked on a match winning partnership of 86, with Snow in particular hitting the ball sweetly on both sides of the wicket.
At 130-3 the visitors had 200 in their sights but Clarky came on to bowl at the Balmacron end and produced an outstanding( and wideless) spell of death bowling which rewarded his hard work in the nets recently to return figures of 3-19 from 5. This restricted the vsiitors to a n around par total of 176.
A fantastic tea was enjoyed by all in the baking sunshine with special credit due to an amazing carrot cake from Mrs C and a lovely selection of 'insomnia' muffins from Mrs Mo.
Meigle struggled badly in the run chase in ideal batting conditions. To be fair to the visitors Rosie and Stinson bowled excellent spells aided, it must be said, by some thoughtless shot selection by the top 6 who had performed so admirably the week before.
The tail also failed to wag with the only highlight being a cameo from Wim at the end with some trademark scoops before he fell for a seasons best 9 to cap off a great day for himself but a poor day at the office for the home side.
