Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Methlick on Sun 29 May 2011 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 5 wkts
Match report
Meigle progressed to the Scottish final of the village cup by defeating Methlick at a blustery Victory Park on Sunday.
Meigle opted to give the visitors first use of the track and after an over the fielding numbers had swelled to 11 after various golf ties and walking trips had been completed.
After a stuffy start Callum made the breakthrough much to anticipated delight of "mystic Duff" at first slip, by bowling opener Woodhouse. Meigle made their way steadily through the visitors batting with Drummy and Jamie taking 'speccies' behind the wicket.
Some steady bowling from the youngsters limited Methlick to a below par 81 runs.
Ater returning from the IPBL Mrs C had obviously been picking up some new recipes and a wonderful butter iced ginger number was the star of the show at tea.
With the threat of rain around the skipper decided to go with the big hitters in the top four in the hope of knocking the runs off quickly.
Obviously none of them made double figures and it was left to the proper batsmen, Clarky, to show them how it is done by getting himself in at first before launching into some powerful square cuts and hitting sweetly through and over the covers on his way to a masterful 21 not out. Coupled with his 2-6 in the first innings this earned him the coveted DLF MOTM award.
Thanks go to Bill Morton for umpiring in pretty unpleasant conditions at times.
