Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Methlick on Sun 20 May 2012 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won By 93 runs

Match report Bouyed by the previous days performance, Meigle were in good spirits ahead of their 2 hour warm up. This was caused by the Methlick team getting held up in traffic at Glamis due to 23,000 people turning up to listen to Jim Broon's first outdoor concert of the summer.

Gilly and Jamie opened up for the home side in lovely batting conditions with a slow pitch and even slower attack. The pair were going well and had put on 78 in 18 overs before Gilly ran past one, no doubt concerned about his barnet being ruined from spending too long in that helmet, oh and don't forget the phenomenon that is gloves get sweaty if you bat more than 5 overs!

Batting at 3 for Meigle in the Yorkshire Tea Village Cup was our very own tea boy(er). The pair scored freely all around the wicket and took the total to 112 before Jamie popped one back to the bowler for a powerful 61.

Next in came Harish for his first innings at the MCC and he was given a standing ovation by the expectant home crowd. After a nervous start Harish came out of his shell and how. He produced the Brut Cava champagne moment of the day by launching an almighty 6 over long on and followed it up[ with a well struck 4 a few balls later. The cameo was not to last though as he was trapped in front in the next over.

To be fair to Methlick the bowling at the end of our innings was very accurate and it proved difficult for veterans Trivedi and Christie to find the boundaries at the death.

The innings closed on 190, a little short of what was expected with 10 overs to go, but a fine 40 over total none the less(I don't know if that is meant to be one word or not, anyway, I digress).

The fine tea was marred somewhat by an unwelcome appearance of a tupperware box consisting of what looked ditinctly like FRUIT. This was wisely given the bodyswerve by most tea takers given the more sensible options of Murray's cake and chocolate brownies.

Early into their innings it became clear that Methlick had more strength in the batting rather than their bowling and, allied to some wayward early Meigle bowling, the visitors were a healthy 42-1 after 10 overs.

The introdustion of Jamie changed all that as after a below par spell on the Saturday, he found both pace and accuracy to find his way through the defences of 2 of the visiting batsmen.

Denis was also in on the act and dismissed the dangerous Saward courtesy of a 'worldy' from the skipper at midwicket.

The Methlick innings was wrapped up in fine style with Rory taking the final 3 wickets in quick time with an accurate and controlled spell of bowling.

And so Meigle march on to the next round, and with 2 wins in the weekend hope this can kickstart their 2012 season.
