Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Forthill on Sat 27 Apr 2013 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won : 25 pts
Match report
Meigle got the SPCU Premier Division campaign off to a winning start today at sunny (and occasionally warm) Victory Park. The skipper won the toss for the second week in a row and invited Autoecosse Forthill to bat. A tight opening spell brought the wicket of Sam Tilston. The introduction of left arm spinner Stevy Ross gave the Meigle attack another dimension but the innings changed course when Forthill skipper and scorer of more runs than this correspondant has had hot Bridies, was run out. Sim looked to stay postive and Forthill got to a reasonable total of 119 all out, after the leader of the Meigle attack, Jamie Morrison (4/18) returned for a second spell to wrap up the tail.
Meigle opened with left hand/right hand combination Callum Leese and Chris Burns. Burns was positive from the outset and scored 30 in 23 minutes before playing one big shot to many. Leese was the main anchor of the innings, with others batting around him. Starkey (23) and Kneale (28) kept the momentum going. It looked like vice captain Jamie Morrison would hit the winning runs, only for Sam Tiston to pluck the ball out of mid-air one handed. Surely a contender for SPCU 'catch of the year' already. Meigle were seen home by two of our U18s in Charlie Clark and Martin Lockley. Meigle get 25 points in the bag and have Gordonians at home next Saturday.
