Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Gordonians on Sat 04 May 2013 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won : 25 pts
Match report
Meigle made it two wins from two outings in the Strathmore & Perthshire Union Premier Division with victory over Arrowdawn Gordonians.
Meigle won the toss and elected to bowl. A severe wind made it hard work for the bowlers. Gordonians started off cautiously, going at 2 an over, but crucially, had wickets in hand. The break through finally came on 46 when heartbeat of the Meigle attack Morrison was given a breather and Ed Kneale had Panoit caught by Laing. The visitors pro, James Cowell, was bowled for 22 by a top notch Yorker by young left arm paceman Charles Clark as the wind blustered. Bhandari top scored for the Granite City men with 55 before behind run out by a sharp throw by Morrison of the penultimate delivery of the innings. Off the final ball of captain Stewart's final over, Clark reacted sharply, throwing the ball to wicket keeper Starkey to run out Mohandoss for 28. Arrowdawn Gordonians 178/6.
Meigle opened up after tea with Starkey and Leese. Left hander Leese was looking much more comfortable at the crease, but succumbed for 15 wth the score on 64. Starkey played some lovely shots for his 34 and batted well with Ralph Laing, who was the anchor of the Meigle innings, ending on 55*. All rounder Ed Kneale threatened to take the game home with a quickfire 18, but it was left to the old guard of Laing and Christie to see the Black & Gold's over the line. Meigle 179/5. 25 points for Meigle, 8 points for Gordonians.
The 1st XI are back in action on Tuesday night in a twenty20 cup tie versus Glenrothes, which sees ex-club pro Ryan Watson return to Victory Park in what promises to be an entertaining encounter.
Next Saturday the 1st XI have a Premier Division clash with Arbroath United at Lochlands, Arbroath, 1pm start.
