Methlick v Meigle Cricket Club First XI on Sun 19 May 2013 at 1300
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 23 runs
Match report
Meigle advanced to the Scottish section semi-final of the Village Cup on Sunday with a 23 run win away to Methlick. Although the wicket and outfield were rather wet from the previous days rain , overhead conditions were fair and occasionly warm.
Acting skipper Morrison lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Meigle made a poor start losing Charles Clark, bowled round his legs, to the first ball of the second over. Boyer soon followed and with drummond struggling to get it off the square at the other end it was left to Craig Morrison to do the bulk of the early scoring, striking 4 sweetly timed boundaries in a breezy 29.
When he departed, quickly followed by Gilmour, Drummond began to find some fluency clearing the rope on 2 occasions. He was to fall for 36 and it was left to the skipper and first Lockley, then Drummond snr, to provide some lower order fireworks, boosting the final total to an above par 161.
After tea Meigle made an inspired start to the second innings with high quality bowling and fielding reducing the home side to 30-5. A dangerous partnership then developed with Murphy and Bremnerson playing nicely and punishing the bad ball to get the home side to 102-5. The returning Boyer accounted for Murphy just when he looked set to take the game away from Meigle and after his dismissal the Methlick innings game to a tame end 23 runs short. Rory Clark finishing with 2 wickets in the final over.
Both teams retired to the local Pub for a beer and BBQ put on by the hosts to bring and end to fine day all round for Meigle.
