Meigle Cricket Club Under 14's v Brechin on Thu 23 Jul 2015 at 18.15
Meigle Cricket Club Won By 6 wkts
Match report
Fergus won the toss and opted to field at a blustery Victory Park as Meigle welcomed Brechin tonight. It was an eventful start to the game with a combination of a strong wind and a quick outfield the ball was finding the boundary regularly. Wickets were also falling steadily and the visitors were reduced to 44-5 with wickets falling to Lucy, Josh and Fergus. A steady partnership then ensued and Brechin added on an imposing 98-7. Good catches were held by Fergus, 2 by Josh and a great diving effort from Logan. Aedan was the star with ball with 3-11 from his improving spinners.
Josh and Fergus opened the home teams reply and Josh was back in the pavilion after 15 minutes having retired on 30 in what was easily the finest innings I have seen at this level. Three beautiful cover drives, a square drive and a hooked 6 were the highlights.
The positive tone was continued by Martin who biffed a couple of boundaries in his uncompromising style. Meigle then lost 3 quick wickets as nerves set in. Could the home team hold on and record their first win in 3 years? Fergus and Aedan batted with great intelligence, taking advantage of the visitors overly defensive field settings and running well between the wickets. While Fergus was struggling to time the ball he played with great grit and hung in to guide is team over the line.
The win was sealed in style as Aedan showed his all round ability extended to the bat by dispatching the winning runs over mid wicket for 6!
Well deserved celebrations followed in scenes that will hopefully be repeated before the season is out.
