Meigle Cricket Club First XI v Mannofield on Sat 07 Aug 2010 at
Meigle Cricket Club Won by 54 runs

Match report A near full strength Meigle team greeted Mannofield to a Victory park which had stood up well to the week's poor weather and with a picturesque looking outfield thanks to the groundstaff's revoloutionary 'triple cut' method.

After losing the toss Meigle were asked to bat and after a quick start, with Den hitting two beautiful straight drives, soon found themselves in trouble losing Christie, Laing and Drummond all to poor shots against the rising ball. Our long batting line up proved up to the test and first Tom then Jamie went about rebuilding the innings. After Tom and Zed had departed Jamie and Arun put together a vital partnership until Jamie, looking assured of his second half century of the season, papped one to mid off to depart for an excellent 44 full of powerfull hooks and trademark cover drives. Arun used all of his experience to guide callum in another crucial stand as Meigle edged toward 200. The tail folded however but the skipper was quietly pleased to have 180 on the board at the interval.

The teas contained another excellent Viccy sponge with a welcome Fruit loaf from Mrs Duff. Contributions even came from Andy who, on the 7th of August, finally found out that you had to bring them!

If the batting was a good team effort then the performance in the outfield was more of the same with almost everyone contributing a wicket, catch or run out apart from the skipper who after being lucky to survive serious injury in the first 3 overs retreated to safer pastures with only the greenfly to contend with!

After the Dons getting off to a bit of a flyer Jamie struck to remove Shay with a beauty which took the top of off. Den then got the crucial wicket of the dangerous looking Barker who was superbly stumped by Tom. Jamie then had Innes caught by Raif at gully from a cracking bouncer which had the skipper proclaiming in topical fashion, 'I Love it when a plan comes together'!

Proud and Wood set about rebuilding the Mannofield innings and at drinks it was anyones game. Andy was settling into a great rhythm and he and Arun were putting the brakes on nicely. Meigle then took 2 quick wickets to rip the heart out of the Mannofield innings when first Andy then Arun trapped their victims in front of the sticks.

To complete a great allround performance from Meigle first Charlie then FB produced great pieces of fielding to execute run outs. Charlie and Callum then both bowled tidy spells at the death to wrap up a convincing win over the league leaders. Skipper Drummond was presented with the DFA award at the end of the match.
