Meigle Cricket Club Won

Match report Meigle 266-9 beat Watsonians 144-5 by DLS
EPL Victory Park Saturday
After heavy rain on Thursday and Friday, Victory park was looking in lush condition for the visit of capital side Watsonians on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Raju elected to bat first again after last weeks disappointing loss at Stewart’s Melville.
Kasun and Harjeet resumed their successful pairing at the top of the order, and this time it was Kasun’s turn to be the aggressor with some early boundaries before he was a bit early on a delivery from Khan and spooned one up to mid on to depart for 26.
Sriram never really got going and he was caught at mid on also trying to go over the top for 4, with the score on 72-2.
Raju again looked in excellent touch after last weeks rare failure as he motored along to 21 before inexplicably chipping one to cover when he looked well set to kick on.
Alan Neave was in at number 5 with plenty of work to do at 119-3.
Alan and Harjeet then produced an excellent partnership, realising the long boundary and soft outfield made boundary hitting difficult, they manipulated the ball into the gaps expertly and ran really well while also punishing the loose balls where possible.
Harjeet made his way to his maiden Meigle century having sacrificed a bit of his usual power hitting to play an important innings for the team.
The duo had taken the total to 246 before Alan fell just short of his half century on 46.
Zahid came and went quickly before Harjeet was finally out for a superb 128 containing ten 4’s and two 6’s.
The lower order didn’t really fire as Weatherall bowled well at the death to end with figures of 4-34. Meigle ending on a highly competitive 266-9 from their 50 overs.
The Watsonians reply got off to a solid start as Neame and Jones dealt with the opening bowling of Stewart and Rashid with no drama but without pushing the scoring rate along either.
Kasun’s bowling since he arrived has proved very effective and again he made the breakthrough, trapping Neame in front for 16 with the score on 43.
On his return to the side, Charles Clark took an over to get the radar reset, before finding his line and dismissing Khan for 1 and Jones for 19, both leg before, as the visitors stumbled to 56-3.
Rae joined Weatherhead at the crease and the pair immediately put the pressure back on the home side with some clean hitting and good aggressive running.
They had taken the score to 134-3 and with game evenly poised Raju turned back to his main strike bowler Zahid. It turned out to be a masterstroke as he powered one through the defences of Rae to bowl him for 45 before inducing an outside edge from Weatherhead who had made 43.
With Watsonians on 144-5 the weather finally closed in and persistent rain signalled the end of the match with Meigle winning on DLS.
Another fine all round performance which produced our third victory of the season.
